ROLEX 24: EVENT WRAP UP

Round One of the 2017 Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge delivered an almost perfect start to the season for CJ Wilson Racing. While the top step of the podium proved elusive, filling the other two spots there felt like a win for everyone concerned.

Till Bechtolsheimer, #33 Porche of Fresno Cayman GT4:

I'm a huge fan of the four hour format and I loved every minute of it. The extra time in the car really let me find my rhythm and battling my way through the field gave me the opportunity to dice with a broad mix of cars and drivers. Huge thanks to the team for keeping us in the fight and to Marc for bringing it home with a spectacular drive. Sebring can't come soon enough!

Till really impressed during the second half of his stint in the #33 car.

Marc Miller, #33 Porsche of Fresno Cayman GT4:

This was a bit of a pleasant surprise for me personally, honestly. During the ROAR test, we kept working towards a beautifully handling Porsche Cayman GT4 but our outright pace wasn't where we felt we needed to be. But we kept working at it and a mixture of found speed, near perfect pit-stops and strategy from the CJ Wilson Racing crew and a stellar opening stint by my co-driver, Till, we found ourselves in a position to take a fight to the win and an eventual runner-up spot in a very stacked field.

Russell Ward impressed everyone on his debut performance in the CTSCC at Daytona.

Russell Ward, #35 Winward Racing Techemet LP Cayman GT4:

The team's performance at Daytona was top notch. I never thought that I would stand on the podium after my first pro race and it was awe inspiring to be up there with Damien, Marc, and Till. It sets a pretty high expectations for the remainder of the season, but the podium finish has shown me that I belong there with the pros.

Damien Faulkner, #35 Winward Racing Techemet LP Cayman GT4:

There’s no denying that we exceeded all of our expectations at Daytona. I was cognizant of the fact my team mate, Russell, had so little experience and I wanted to micro-manage his expectations, but he performed like a pro, proving his skill. Our CJ Wilson/Winward Racing crew were also fantastic, they gave us a great car and executed their first pit-stops with style. I’m really excited and upbeat for the rest of the season and can’t wait for Sebring.

The whole week's efforts were documented by a CJ Wilson Racing video crew and the full story will be published next week after the race broadcast airs on Fox Sports. In the mean time, here is a brief teaser.
